Are we underestimating young people?

Are young people more capable than society generally gives them credit for being?

The capstone of the Acton high school experience is a project called the “Next Great Adventure,” or NGA, for short. Learners spend one to two years exploring, searching, and committing to their chosen next step after they graduate.

(Better to have a clear vision of where you are going with purpose and intention than to discover, after the fact, that you hate the degree you earned and the debt that may have accompanied it…. Ouch.)

The NGA includes extensive self-discovery writing assignments, multiple interviews with professionals in the field, and internships that build a strong network of references.

However, this process actually begins even before middle school apprenticeships with the elementary age learners embracing an entrepreneurial mindset by participating in the Children's Business Fair each year.

The motto of “fail early, cheaply, and often” emboldens Heroes at Acton with the courage to try out various jobs and industries to see what ignites their gifts and passions.

So, would you prefer a traditional high school or the adventure of a lifetime?
