Visual Arts
The visual arts at Acton Marietta is explored through TAB (Teaching for Artistic Behavior) . TAB is a methodology used in art education to encourage and promote the highest levels of creativity. The basic philosophy behind TAB is to treat the creative space like a functioning art studio and the learners like practicing artists. This approach fits perfectly into the Acton model of self-directed learning.
In a TAB studio, learners replicate habits that professional artists tend to practice in their art-making. Harvard’s Project Zero identified these as the Eight Studio Habits of Mind:
In a TAB studio, learners replicate habits that professional artists tend to practice in their art-making. Harvard’s Project Zero identified these as the Eight Studio Habits of Mind:
- Develop their craft - learning to use tools and materials
- Engage and Persist - embrace problems and work through them
- Envision - mentally picture the next steps
- Express - create works that convey an idea, feeling, or meaning
- Observe - look closely and see things otherwise unseen
- Reflect - talk about the process and honestly reflect on their work
- Stretch and Explore - push myself and learn from my mistakes
- Understand Art Worlds - learning to interact as an artist and with other artists
The Acton Marietta Eagles recently participated in the Brooklyn Art Library's Sketchbook Project!
We're looking forward to seeing their sketchbook come through Atlanta on the next Bookmobile tour.

Music
The Acton Marietta Eagles explore music theory and are introduced to playing various instruments through an online program called Prodigies Music.
Dramatic Arts
Eagles across all studios collaborate to perform bits of famous dramatic works, play with improv skills, dance, and learn to be confident in front of an audience.
We're proud to partner with Drama Notebook for some of our performances!
