Position: Explorer Guide (ages 5-8)

Acton Academy Marietta is a non-profit private micro-school and learner-driven community located in Marietta that provides a truly unique and revolutionary ‘disruptive” educational model. AAM is a part of the growing global Acton Academy Network of over 250 affiliates across the US and the globe who all share the belief that each learner who enters its doors will find a calling and change the world. We are accredited by the International Association of Learner Driven Schools.
At Acton Academy Marietta, we have mixed-aged learning squads with a self-paced learning design, not grade-levels. Our real-world quests culminate in a public exhibition of learning, not in tests, grades, or report cards.
In all areas of Acton life, our learners are empowered to be in the driver’s seat of their own governance and learning.
We are seeking a full-time Guide to work with our youngest heroes (approximate ages 5-8).
We are looking for a smart, driven individual who is passionate about guiding children on their independent journey of lifelong learning. The ideal candidate will be familiar with or open to exploring Maria Montessori’s approach and methods.

Welcomed (but not required) Experience and Skills:
- experience managing mixed-aged groups of children
- experience planning and implementing games or projects
- coaching or mentoring experience a plus
- a passion for disruptive education opportunities
- deeply curious and ready to learn and work hard
- agile with technology
- excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills
- lover of books and reading
- a deep heart for children and a trust and respect for their ability to learn and grow without heavy adult intervention
- kind-hearted and tough-minded

- a calm demeanor and secure in being on a Hero’s Journey
- Montessori teaching/certification a plus but not required
Additional Information/Requirements:
- Schedule:
- Monday through Friday with paid vacations according this calendar.
- 7:45 am - 3:45 pm
- occasional expectation to learn/work outside of hours if needed
- Must pass a criminal background check
- Must obtain child first aid/CPR certification (we will cover cost for this)
- Benefits:
- Six weeks paid time off during the school year
- June and July are paid time off with an expectation for professional development as well as individual and collaborative work to prepare for the next school year
